Pettes Chooses Hometown Sun Devils

Following Zach Miller's commitment to Arizona State, some were wondering if the state's second best tight end may choose to attend Oregon, rather than ASU. In a phone call to DevilsDigest on Thursday morning, the Moon Valley (Phoenix, AZ) standout said that he will join Miller in the maroon and gold.

"I committed to the Sun Devils," said the 6-4 235 Pettes. "I just saw a better opportunity there as a player, and chance to play more than in Oregon." In his senior season, the tight end was one of the biggest offensive producers in the Arizona high school ranks. Pettes hauled down 44 receptions for 635 yds, and 13 touchdowns.

Pettes did receive some encouragement from a current ASU star, which undoubtedly helped him with his decision. "Andrew Walter talked to me on the phone," he stated. "And talking to him about ASU, it sounded better coming from a player than a coach. That really put me over the hump."

Time will tell if the Moon Valley high school star will compete with Miller at tight end or possibly be moved to the defensive line. One thing is for certain, the Sun Devils are once again ensuring that the top players in the state will be wearing the maroon and gold.
