Last time we talked to Brent Russum, the 6-4 268 offensive lineman from Lewiston, ID, he stated that he was making a list of positives and negatives regarding his two finalists – Oregon and ASU. These days, it seems that the proverbial balance sheet is tilting heavily in favor one of the schools. "I'm leaning towards ASU," Russum said. "Coach Koetter met at me and my mom at school on Thursday. My Mom actually got to talk to him alone, and had all her ‘mom questions' answered, without me being there…if I sign with ASU I'll be only their third O-line commit, so that's good."
And where do the Ducks fit it right now? "Oregon is there," the lineman said. "But ASU is a better fit. I had a great trip there, and with Oregon signing six offensive linemen, I know I have a chance for more playing time at ASU."
The question now is how come Russum hasn't gave his verbal commitment yet to the Sun Devils? He said that it stems from not being totally familiar with ASU's offensive coach Jeff Grimes. "When I visited ASU," he said, "Coach Grimes wasn't there because he had an emergency. I did talk to him on the phone. He's coming here next week, so we'll really get to know each other. We won't just sit down and talk in the house, but we'll also shoot some pool and stuff like that. I'll make my decision after I visit with him."
Brent Russum was also interested at one time in Oregon State and CAL, but since then has backed off. All indications are that he will verbally commit to ASU some time next week.
