Devils Edge ‘Pokes 3-2

The fifth ranked Arizona State baseball team wins their 12th in the last 13 games, as they come away victorious at home against Oklahoma State.

The win was in large due to an outstanding pitching performance from freshmen pitchers Pat Cassa, Quentin Andes (who earned the win), and Pat Bresnehan (fifth save of the year). What was more impressive was that this remarkable pitching feat took place against the visitor's best hurler - Daniel Rew.

The Devils wasted no time, and scored in the first frame when Zechry Zinicola's two-out single drove in the game's opening run. The ‘Pokes took advantage of a two-out error by ASU second baseman Nick Walsh in the third, and following singles by Josh Fields and Jason Jaramillo jumped to a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, ASU regained the lead for good. Once again, Zinicola drove in a run and freshman first baseman Joe Persichina's single aided the Sun Devils to score their third and last run on the night.

Jeff Larish paced the home team with three hits, while crossing the plate once. Dustin Pedroia was 2-for-5, earning his 13th double on the year. Zinicola was 2-for-3 with a couple of RBI's.

The second and last game of the series will be played Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Packard Stadium. ASU freshman right-hander Zechry Zinicola (1-1, 3.60 ERA) will face OSU junior left-hander Spencer Grogan (4-0, 2.88 ERA).
