ASU Hoops Lands Coveted Recruit Ike Diogu

The Sun Devils were in need for big men up front. They already lost Matt Haryasz to Stanford, and were in a fierce battle over Ike Diogu, the 6-9 240 Garland (TX) High School senior, with Uconn and Illinois. The team's fortunes did change this time around, and it landed Diogu who will fulfill a dire need for Arizona State.

Please forgive ASU fans who are going chanting: "I like Ike!" today. It was a nervous and long wait for ASU coaches, and fans anticipating the verbal commitment of Ike Diogu. The saying "good things come to those who wait" did turn out true for ASU today.

Ike's coach, Phil Sirois, talked to Ike this morning and gave us the good news. The official signing of the letter of intent by Ike will take place tomorrow. His coach sang his praises: "Ike is better person that he is a player, and as a player he has a lot of good things going for him. He's very powerful, and has very good hands." On the decision itself he said: "Ike always liked coach Evans and the players. They were there from the beginning recruiting him, and came to a lot of games."

There's still the matter of Ike academically qualifying, but sources close to him are confident that this solid high school student will be able to concur his college entrance exams.
