ASU Prospect David Gray

Gray was another California high school player who tripped to Tempe this past weekend. He came on his trip with low expectations? Were those expectations fulfilled?

"My visit went real good, better than I expected." Says the wide receiver who stands 6-3 205. "I didn't care that ASU lost (to WSU). You can tell that they're a good young team that will be real good in the future. The coaches have a real family atmosphere. The campus and the facilities were real nice, so were the women (smile)." Gray was also impressed by the fans at ASU who were very vocal and three items to the field, due to the poor officiating.

Gray who hails from Oakland and attends McClymonds high school, said that ASU along with Illinois (visit on 12/1), Colorado (11/23) and WSU (12/8) are his top choices. Ironically, when we first contacted him U of A was on the other phone line. Gray said that he's working on setting up a visit with them. He expects to make a decision in December.

Despite his 4.5 speed, Gray says, "I'm a more physical receiver than just a fast one. I'm good in making the tough catches. I love just jumping up in a fade route and getting the ball. My weakness is that our high school only throws bombs. I like that ASU runs the same offense. But I wish I was in the offense where we run a lot of different routes."

Gray has qualified academically with a 3.17 GPA and a 990 on the SAT.
