Devils Stun Shockers on the Road

The ASU baseball team opened a two game road series against Wichita State in dramatic fashion. After trailing 7-1 in the second inning, the Devils came back to win the game 10-9 over the 10th ranked Shockers.

Dustin Pedroia had his first career two home run game, as he went deep in the fifth and eighth innings for his seventh and eighth home runs on the year. The Devils used a total of eight pitchers in the game, as Erik Averill (3-2) earned win in two innings of scoreless pitching, and Zechry Zinicola stopped a Wichita State rally attempt for his third save of the year.

ASU got on the board first after Pedroia scored off of a Jeff Larish single. The Shockers scored seven runs in the next two innings before the Devils cut the lead to 7-4 after Josh Asanovich's three run home run in the third inning.

Down 8-4 in the fifth inning, ASU would tie the game up with solo home runs by Pedroia and Larish and runs by Zinicola and Asanovich. The Devils increased their lead after tallying a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings. The Shockers had the tying run on in the ninth inning with one out, but Zinicola retired the next two hitters for the ASU victory.

Pedroia went three for five with two home runs, two RBI's, and three runs scored. Jeff Larish (two for four, one run scored and two RBI's), Josh Asanovich (three for four, three RBI's, and two runs scored) and Tuffy Gosewisch (two for four, two RBI's) each had multi-hit games.

ASU is currently 29-12 on the year, and will face Wichita State on Wednesday in the last game of the two-game series.
