Coach Rob Evans' Post Game Comments

Coach Evans Reviews The Win Over Stephen F. Austin.

"It was a good first game for us. We still need to clean up some things like the fouls and the illegal screens we had, but overall we played well… Their free throw shooting in the first half didn't allow us to break away. If we played smart in the first half, we would shake them off early…The half court trap did surprise us. There only so many things you can work on at practice. But we made adjustments at the half, and came out stronger in the second half…The depth we have is different than what we had in the past. Now we don't have to change our style, when new players come in. I can't tell you who will play more than the others, but eventually the cream will rise to the top…"

(On Chad Prewitt) "He's an excellent player. He worked very hard to better himself in the off-season. He's set himself up for a very good year. We know we can count on him down the road."

(On Curtis Millage) "When he understands our defense, he'll be even better than he is now. He came to me recently frustrated that he still doesn't understand our defense. I told him that this is natural during one's first year. He's a fine player, who will make players around him better."

(On Justin Allen) "I thought about all of last night. Each time I was substituting, he was looking anxiously at me. When he went in the game, I just thought how blessed we al are. It's very exciting to me. He was anxious out there. He's usually a very good shooter, but today his shots barely hit the rim. I know he's capable for more than that. He's not our best free throw shooter, but when the players asked me whom I want to shoot the technical foul, I told them to let Justin do it. I know he'll remember this game for the rest of his live, so I wanted it to be a positive one. I also wanted him to get his butterflies out."
