Devils Trounce Aggies

The 20th ranked ASU baseball team hosted the New Mexico State Aggies at Packard Stadium Monday night. The Devils took a quick 11-0 lead after three innings, and never looked back as they won 19-2.

ASU was led by an offensive explosion and solid outings by starter Jason Urquidez (9-2) and relief pitcher Brett Bordes. Urquidez earned the win in his five innings of work, allowing just one run off of two hits, striking out seven and walking two. Bordes pitched the final four innings; also allowing one run off of two hits, striking out three.

The Devils struck first blood after putting three runs on the board in the first inning. A Zechry Zinicola double scored Travis Buck for the first run of the game. Jeff Larish would cross the plate after a called balk, and Zinicola scored after a fielding error by RF Mark Aranda.

ASU erupted for six more runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Colin Curtis three run home run. Down 11-0 after three innings, the only runs the Aggies would score would be single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Devils pounded out 18 hits to score 19 runs. Jeff Larish led the way with a four for six performance, scoring three runs. Along with Larish, five other Devils had multi-hit games.

The Devils' record now stands at 31-13 as they have now won eight of their last 10 games, and will go for the two game series sweep on Tuesday night at Packard Stadium.
