Devils Complete Sweep of Aggies

The 20th ranked ASU baseball team played host to the New Mexico State Aggies in the last game of the two game series at Packard Stadium on Tuesday evening. ASU pulled out the 6-2 win, and are now 32-13 on the season.

Freshman Zechry Zinicola took the start for the Devils, and pitched just one inning. Jeff Mousser (5-3) notched the win after four innings of work, allowing no runs, while giving up five hits on the evening. Pat Bresnehan, Pat Cassa, Erik Averill, and Quentin Andes all saw time out of the bullpen for the Devils.

With the score tied at zero through one inning, the Devils broke through with a four run second inning. A Tuffy Gosewisch double to left center brought around Josh Asanovich and Zinicola. A sacrifice bunt scored Colin Curtis, and Gosewisch put the score at 4-0 after Joe Persichina singled him home.

The Aggies took one of those runs back in their half of the fifth inning, but ASU came back with two more of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dustin Pedroia and Travis Buck scored. NMSU added another run in the seventh inning, but it would not be enough as ASU held on for the victory.

ASU will move on with Pac-10 play this weekend, as they will host Oregon State Friday through Sunday at Packard Stadium. The Beavers are currently 27-14 on the year, and are tied with ASU for fourth place in the Pac-10 with a 7-8 record.
