Diamond Devils Keep on Rolling

The Sun Devils Baseball team continued their winning ways as they routed New Mexico 22-4 in Albuquerque's Isotopes Park.

ASU (36-13) started the game in roaring fashion as they jumped to a 6-0 lead after only one inning.

Down two outs, Josh Asanovich had a run-scoring single to give the Devils their first of many runs on the night. A couple of mental errors by the Lobos' pitching brought Chris Cook to the plate, and he answered with grand slam home run clearing over 428 feet. In the fifth, Third baseman Seth Dhaenens brought home a pair of runs, while Joel Bocchi and Dustin Pedroia both scored runs when being walked with the bases loaded, and helping their team add five more runs to increase the lead to 15-0.

In the top of the eighth, outfielder Nick Cadena had a solo home run, while Ryan McKenna had three-run bomb to help their team score five more runs and set season highs in both runs (22) and hits (26). On the mound, freshman Pat Cassa went 6 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits, but also striking out six and surrendering only three runs. Left-hander Travis Webb had a career-high four strikeouts in two innings, and help fend off any rally from the home team.

The Sun Devils conclude this short road trip to New Mexico, by paying a visit on Wednesday to the Aggies of New Mexico at 6 p.m. (MST) in Las Cruces.
