Cardinal Blanks Devils

The 16th ranked ASU baseball team traveled to Northern California to face the 2nd ranked Stanford Cardinal for a three game series. The Devils were shutout for only the second time this season in the 5-0 loss on Friday. The loss drops ASU's record to 39-15 on the year.

Stanford took a quick lead in the first inning after a Danny Putnam grand slam gave the Cardinal a 4-0 lead in the first inning. They added another run in the fourth inning, and out hit the Devils nine to three on the evening.

Starter Jeff Mousser (6-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs in four innings of work. Quentin Andes came in relief, pitching the last four innings, giving up no runs and just two hits.

Tuffy Gosewisch was the only Devil with a multi-hit game, going two for four with a double in the second inning. Colin Curtis was the only other Devil with a hit in the game.

Game two of the three game series starts at 1pm Saturday at the Sunken Diamond at Stanford. The loss puts the Pac-10 title out of reach for ASU, as a sweep would have give then Devils a possibility of three way tie for first place
