Devils Stay Alive with Win

The #1 seed ASU baseball team escaped elimination with a 6-4 win over Minnesota Saturday afternoon at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, California. The Devils will now face Cal State Fullerton at 7pm to try to advance to face Pepperdine on Sunday.

Starter Jason Urquidez had another solid outing, and Zechry Zinicola notched his eighth save of the year in the win. Urquidez (12-3) allowed three runs in five and one third innings of work, striking out four and walking three, all awhile earning the win. Zinicola gave up one run off of five hits in three and two third innings of work.

ASU jumped on the board first in the opening frame after Dustin Pedroia came across the plate after a Tuffy Gosewisch bases loaded ground out. The next batter of the inning, Joe Persichina singled to left field, which scored Jeff Larish and Travis Buck.

The Devils extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning after Joe Persichina scored off of a Seth Dhaenens groundout. A Dustin Pedroia singled scored Colin Curtis for the second run of the inning.

The Gophers cut the lead to 5-3 after scoring a run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth. Dustin Pedroia scored his second run of the game in the seventh inning after a fielder's choice put Travis Buck out at second. The Gophers would add another run in the eighth inning, but it would not be enough as ASU won 6-4.

Travis Buck one again led the offensive attack with a three for five game, scoring a run. Dustin Pedroia (two for four, one RBI, two runs scored) and Joe Persichina (two for four, two RBI's, and one run scored) also had multi-hit games.
