Marcus Johnson Looks To Make His Mark in College

This safety from Tempe's Marcos De Niza high school is the prefect combination of size and speed. The Superprep All-American has some Pac-10 schools taking a close look at him. Is ASU one of them?

"I would go to ASU, but they're not recruiting me hard as the other schools" said the 6-0 180 Johnson "Colorado State has a slight edge over U of A, Cal, Boise St. and Wyoming." The speedy safety runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, but he plans to "get even faster and stronger. I'm working with a trainer right now so I can get in better shape to play the safety position in college."

Schools that Marcus is interested in, but hasn't heard from, are the rest of the Pac-10, Northwestern, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Colorado. He hasn't taken any official visits yet. "I want to take my visits before I make my decision. I don't have a certain time frame for that. I just want to visit schools and see what's out there. When I asked about his strengths and weaknesses, the safety said: "I'm very fast, and a sure tackler. I'm a vocal person, and was a leader on my team. I have a good nose for the Football. I'm probably a better tackler than a fast guy, but I do have the speed. I do want to get faster than a 4.5, and work more on zone coverage too. Some schools are recruiting me as a cornerback, but I primarily played safety in high school."

Marcus has taken care of business in the classroom. He carries a 3.5 GPA with an SAT score of 1000. He has been cleared by the NCAA's clearinghouse.
