Newcomer Report

Through out the 2004 season, DevilsDigest will track the contributions of the team's first year players. The following are the newcomer's contributions in Arizona State's 30-21 win over Northwestern.

Offensively, true freshman TE/H-back Zach Miller caught his first pass as a Sun Devil, leading to an 11 yard gain. Redshirt freshman Rudy Burgess was solid on special teams with 4 punt returns, leading to 67 yards, and two kickoff returns for 60 yards. However, he did have two fumble punt returns that were recovered by his teammates. HB/TE's Tyrice Thompson and Brent Miller saw time on the offensive side of the ball, while redshirt freshman Mike Pollak started at center and redshirt freshman punter Chris MacDonald had a decent game with five punts for an average of 39 yards.

On defense, starting linebacker Dale Robinson once again led the team in tackles with 13, including two for a loss. Redshirt freshman cornerback Chad Green accumulated two tackles, while true freshmen linebacker Antone Saulsberry and defensive tackle Quency Darley each recorded one tackle. Other participants in the game against the Wildcats included junior safety Maurice London; redshirt freshmen corner back Littrele Jones, linebacker Robert James, true freshman safety Rodney Cox, and junior defensive lineman Dewayne Hollyfield.
