Newcomer Report

Through out the 2004 season, DevilsDigest will track the contributions of the team's first year players. The following are the newcomer's contributions in Arizona State's 44-7 win over Iowa.

On offense, true freshman TE/H-back Zach Miller caught his first touchdown in the maroon and gold. On the night, Miller caught 10 passes for 85 yards, with two touchdown receptions coming from five and six yards. Redshirt freshman running back Preston Jones carried the ball four times for ten yards, while TE/H-back Brent Miller had one reception for four yards. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Rudy Burgess saw time on special teams, returning four punts for 24 yards, with a kick return that gained 14 yards.

Redshirt freshman center Mike Pollak once against started at his position, while true freshman wide receiver Jeremy Payton, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Robert Gustavis, redshirt freshmen TE/H-back Tyrice Thompson and Kellen Mills saw time on the field.

Defensively, junior linebacker Dale Robinson led the team again with nine tackles, and also accumulated a half sack. Redshirt freshman linebacker DeAndre Johnson tallied four tackles with a sack. Junior defensive tackle Quency Darley had a total of two stops, while redshirt freshman cornerback Chad Green and junior DeWayne Hollyfield each recorded one. Other Devils seeing time on the defensive side of the ball were junior safety Maurice London, redshirt freshman cornerback Littrele Jones, redshirt freshman linebacker Robert James, and true freshman safety Rodney Cox.
