Newcomer Report

Through out the 2004 season, DevilsDigest will track the contributions of the team's first year players. The following are the newcomer's contributions in Arizona State's 45-7 loss to USC.

Offensively, true freshman TE/H-back Zach Miller was one of the lone bright spots in the game with eight catches for a career high 102 yards receiving. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Rudy Burgess once again was multi-dimensional player with three runs for 13 yards, and had two catches for 11 yards. Burgess also completed one pass, and continued his special team duties with one punt return for a gain of eight yards and had two kickoff returns for 31 yards. Redshirt freshman tailback Preston Jones saw action with four rushes for 18 yards. Redshirt freshman punter Chris MacDonald punted the ball six times for an average of 41.2 yards, and also capped off a successful fake punt with a 26 yard completion. Other Devils seeing time on offense were redshirt freshman center Mike Pollak, and redshirt freshmen TE/H-backs Tyrice Thompson, Kellen Mills, and Brent Miller. On defense, junior linebacker Dale Robinson was in his normal starting postion and accumulated 11 tackles on the afternoon. Redshirt freshman linebacker DeAndre Johnson had a total of three stops, while redshirt freshman cornerback Chad Green had two. Other defensive Devils seeing time on the field were junior safety Maurice London, redshirt freshman safety Josh Barrett, redshirt freshman linebacker Robert James, true freshman cornerback Rodney Cox, true freshman linebacker Antone Saulsberry, junior linebacker Nick Clapp, junior defensive tackle Quency Darley, and junior defensive lineman DeWayne Hollyfield.
