Newcomer Report

Through out the 2004 season, DevilsDigest will track the contributions of the team's first year players. The following are the newcomer's contributions in Arizona State's 48-42 win over UCLA.

On offense, redshirt freshman WR/RB Rudy Burgess ran the ball nine times for 41 yards, while scoring on a three yard reception, and had a total of seven receptions for 39 yards. He also continued his special teams duties with two punts for -5 yards, and had one kickoff return that went for a 26 yard gain. Redshirt freshman tailback Preston Jones had a solid game, with 16 carries for 69 yards. True freshman H-back/TE Zach Miller had four receptions for a total of 32 yards, with a 15 yard touchdown catch. Redshirt freshman H-back/TE Brent Miller caught a two point conversion late in the fourth quarter that helped lead to the ASU win. Punter Chris MacDonald punted the ball a total of fives times for an average of 38.2 yards. Other Devils seeing time on offense were redshirt freshmen H-back/TE Tyrice Thompson and Kellen Mills, and true freshman H-back/TE Andrew Pettes.

Defensively, junior safety Maurice London had his best game to date as a Devil with a total of nine tackles with a forced fumble. Junior linebacker Dale Robinson accumulated seven tackles with an interception and a tackle for a loss. Other defensive Devils seeing playing time were redshirt freshmen cornberbacks Littrele Jones and Chad Green, redshirt freshmen linebackers Robert James and DeAndre Johnson, true freshman cornerback Rodney Cox, true freshman linebacker Antone Saulsberry, and junior defensive lineman DeWayne Hollyfield.
