Newcomer Report

Through out the 2004 season, DevilsDigest will track the contributions of the team's first year players. The following are the newcomer's contributions in Arizona State's 27-0 loss to California.

Offensively, redshirt freshman RB/WR Rudy Burgess ran the ball four times for 15 yards, while catching five balls for a gain of 45 yards. His special teams duties included one punt return for a yard gain and three kickoff returns for 60 yards. Redshirt freshman tailback Preston Jones notched his second straight start on the year, carrying the ball just five times for a total of nine yards.

True freshman H-back/TE Zach Miller added six receptions to his season total for 46 yards. Punter Chris MacDonald had a total of five punts for an average of 41.8 yards per punt. The only other Devil to see time on offense was redshirt freshman H-back/TE Kellen Mills.

On defense, junior linebacker Dale Robinson continued his starting role with a total of four tackles. Junior defensive tackle Quency Darley contributed with three stops. Other Devils seeing playing time on defense were junior safety Maurice London, redshirt freshmen linebackers Robert James and DeAndre Johnson, redshirt freshman cornerback Chad Green, true freshman cornerback Rodney Cox, true freshman linebacker Antone Saulsberry, and junior defensive lineman DeWayne Hollyfield.
