Devils Earn First PAC 10 Victory

The ASU hoops team got its first PAC 10 victory Friday night by beating Oregon State 67–58 on Friday night in front of 6,284 fans at Wells Fargo Arena. The much-needed victory was sparked by the play of Chad Prewitt, Tommy Smith, and Kenny Crandall.

Prewitt Led the Devils with a career-high 25 points in 32 minutes, while also grabbing eight rebounds. His conventional three-point play with just under 90 seconds left in the game sealed the victory for the Sun Devils.

Tommy Smith had a very strong performance against the Beavers. He poured in 18 points, including shooting 3-4 from behind the arc, and also added eight rebounds and six assists.

Crandall added the remainder of the offensive power by chipping in with four assists, including a nice assist on Prewitt's three point play that sealed the victory, and dropping in 14 points on the night.

As has been the trend for the Sun Devils, they let Oregon State jump out to an early lead. ASU fought its way back into the game with stingy defense and offense provided by Prewitt and Smith. The Devils were able to build a nine point lead by halftime.

Oregon State whittled the lead down to only two points with just over 9 minutes left in the game, but the Devils refused to fold. Kenny Crandall connected on a three pointer and also converted a conventional three-point play in the second half to help hold of the surging Beavers.

The Sun Devils pulled out the victory despite getting scoring from only five players. In support of Prewitt, Smith, and Crandall, Curtis Millage chipped in eight points and Kyle Dodd added a deuce.

The Sun Devils will return to action on Sunday night at 6:30pm MST at Wells Fargo Arena. They face the Oregon Ducks, who are coming off a 90-80 victory over the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson.
