California Center Gives ASU a Christmas Present

The Sun Devils have been a magnet for offensive linemen the last few days. A couple of days following the commitment of J.D. Walton, the 6-3 285 Thomas Altieri from Vista (Calif.) followed suit and announced on Christmas Day, to his family and the Sun Devil coaches, of his verbal commitment to ASU.

"I just always felt comfortable with the coaches," he said. "I was kinda going back and forth on my decision, but I decided on Arizona State because I get to play on the West Coast and in the Pac-10, and that way my family can see me play."

Thomas Altieri purposely waited until Christmas day to make his announcement, so he could have as many family members as possible to give the good news in person. Following his announcement to his family, he notified ASU's had coach Dirk Koetter, wide receivers coach Daryl Jackson who was recruiting him, and his future position coach Brent Meyers. "They all said that my commitment is the best Christmas present they could have gotten."

The lineman was mulling offers from Boise State, San Diego State, Utah and UNLV. The first two schools were the only ones he visited aside from ASU. He was also considering California, Michigan, Notre Dame, Colorado, and Arizona. He carries a 3.4 GPA and with an SAT score of 960 he academically qualified.
