Newcomer Report

Through out the 2004 season, DevilsDigest has tracked the contributions of the team's first year players. The following are the newcomer's contributions in Arizona State's 27-23 Sun Bowl victory over Purdue.

On offense, redshirt freshman RB Rudy Burgess recorded two receiving touchdowns in the game, one on a 41 yard reception and the other on a 19 yard catch to seal the win for the Sun Devils. Overall, Burgess carried the ball 20 times for 125 yards and had three receptions for 64 yards. He also contributed on special teams, with one punt return for a return of 11 yards.

Redshirt freshman RB Preston Jones had nine carries for 35 yards while true freshman RB Antone Saulsberry also saw action in the backfield, with seven touches for 27 yards. True freshman TE Zach Miller caught five balls for 28 yards and redshirt freshman punter Chris MacDonald had another solid outing, with four punts averaging 43.5 yards, although one of them was blocked. Other Devils seeing playing time on offense were redshirt freshmen TE/HB Kellen Mills, Tyrice Thompson, and Brent Miller.

Defensively, junior LB Dale Robinson accumulated a total of 11 tackles, with one sack, a broken up pass, and three tackles for loss. Other Devils that saw playing time on defense were junior S Maurice London, redshirt freshmen CB Littrele Jones and Chad Green, redshirt freshman LB Robert James, true freshman CB Rodney Cox, junior DL DeWayne Hollyfield, and junior DT Quency Darley.
