Granger Calm Amid Recruiting Storm

It's only natural that a bona fide blue chip defensive tackle will cause fans and coaches to spend anxious moments waiting for a verbal commitment, let alone the coveted signed and faxed Letter of Intent. However, what may defy logic is that an 18-year old fielding several phone calls and interviews a day, is staying as cool as a cucumber. In this exclusive Devils Digest interview, we sat down with the five-star Kimball high school standout to get the latest on his recruitment.

There has been confusion as to when and where DeMarcus Granger and teammate Jameon Hardeman will announce their verbal decisions, so we asked Granger who replied: "We're gonna announce on Sports Sunday on channel 4 (in Dallas). The show is between 10-10:30." The defensive tackle did mention that his decision to announce just a few days before signing day is so he could do it on that TV show.

The Kimball teammates did visit Stillwater this past weekend. However, Granger admitted that he's not considering Oklahoma State. True to form, he didn't tip his hat as to whether him and his best friend will attend the same college. "ASU, Oklahoma State, and Tennessee are the only schools that offered both of us. I'm not sure if we're both gonna go to the same school." The defensive tackle added that he also was uncertain if he will keep his original plan to visit Tennessee this weekend, but does maintain that the Vols along with Arizona State and Oklahoma are in his top three.

When asked if all this recruiting pressure was getting to him, he replied. "It's all right, I'm just taking it one day at a time." And the days before signing day are getting fewer and fewer. Granger claimed that he's known for "three weeks" which school he will go to. Clearly, the #1 rated defensive tackle is holding all the cards. In just over a week, we'll all know for certain who will hit the one the biggest jackpots in the 2005 recruiting class…
