Dirtbags blast Devils, 11-1

The Arizona State Sun Devil baseball team lost the third and deciding game in the series to the visiting Long Beach State Dirtbags 11-1. The Devils (1-2) struggled at the plate today tallying only nine hits and one run off the Dirtbag pitching staff.

A large part of the Sun Devils struggles at the plate were due to the solid pitching performance of Dirtbag starter Marco Estrada (1-0). Estrada looked great on the mound pitching six innings while only allowing one run on eight hits.

Senior pitcher Brett Bordes (0-1) started on the mound for the Devils and received his first loss of the season. Bordes only lasted four innings giving up three runs on six hits all three runs were unearned.

The Dirtbags bats were on fire today, lacing line drives all over field. Dirtbag second baseman Chuck Sindlinger made the Devils pay in the third inning, which was extended by a Jeff Larish throwing error, by blasting a two-run homer over the left field fence. This gave the Dirtbags a 3-0 advantage upon which they never looked back.

The Devils will try to get things back on track next weekend when they host the Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament at Packard stadium in Tempe. The Devils open up the tournament with New Mexico State on Friday night at 7:00 PM.
