Beavers Double Up Devils

The Sun Devils (3-3) faced off against Oregon State (3-1) in a non-conference match-up in the Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament Saturday afternoon and came away on the losing end of a 12-6 game.

Oregon State took an early lead in the top of the second scoring two unearned runs thanks to two errors by the Sun Devil defense. The Devils came back in the bottom of the inning and scored four runs of their own behind a Tuffy Gosewisch two run homer to right field. The homerun was the first for the Devils this season. The Sun Devils were ahead 5-2 going into the top of the fifth but the Beaver bats exploded for eight runs on eight hits in the fifth and never looked back.

Senior starter Brett Bordes (0-2) received the loss in lasting four and a third innings while allowing six runs four of them earned. Junior right-hander Toney Barnette struggled out of the bullpen for the second day in a row, allowing five runs in just a third of an inning pitched. The Devils ended the day committing five errors that proved to be very costly.

The Sun Devils will try to rebound from Sunday's loss in their last game of the tournament Monday night with a game against New Mexico State (1-3) at 6 p.m. Senior right-hander Ty Marotz (0-0, 3.38 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Sun Devils.
