Bulldogs Blank Devils

Pat Murphy's Sun Devil baseball team ended the Coca-Cola Spring Training Classic with a tough 2-0 loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs (3-3). The Devils fell to 6-4 on the season and finished the tournament 2-1.

The Sun Devils were limited to just four hits thanks to the outstanding pitching performance by Bulldog starter Patrick Donavan. Donavan pitched seven scoreless innings before turning it over to the bullpen to finish the game. His performance helped the Bulldogs defeat the Devils for the first time in 11 meetings.

Sun Devil sophomore Zechry Zinicola pitched very well in his first career start in a Sun Devil uniform. Zinicola (2-1) received his first loss of the season, while only allowing three hits and two runs in 4.1 innings of work. The two runs came off two Sun Devil errors, something that has plagued this team so far this season. The Devils finished the game with three errors. Junior left-hander Brett Bordes also looked good coming out of the bullpen to pitch 4.2 scoreless innings.

The Devils will really see what they're made of in the upcoming week as the travel to Tucson on Tuesday to face nationally ranked rival UofA. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start time. After their one game match-up with the Wildcats, the Devils will travel to Louisiana for a three game series against the number one ranked team in the country, Tulane Green Wave.
