Green Wave Defeat Devils

The No.1 Ranked Tulane Green Wave took game one of the three game series against the No. 11 Arizona State Sun Devils Friday night, 8-2.

The Green Wave jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first by scoring three runs off Sun Devil starter Jason Urquidez (1-1). Urquidez had trouble finding the strike zone and was credited for his first loss of the season. Urquidez gave up six hits, seven runs, and six walks in five innings of work. Tulane Pre-season All-American pitcher Brian Bogusevic (2-0) looked great in the win, allowing just one run while striking out six in six innings of work.

At the plate the Devils just managed six hits and two runs. Sophomore left fielder Colin Curtis continued to hit the ball well in recording his team high seventh multi-hit game. Curtis finished the day 2-for-3 with a walk. Junior, Pre-season All-American right fielder Travis Buck was held without a hit, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts hitting form the leadoff spot. One bright spot for the Devils was junior Kevin Dryanski's performance out of the bullpen. Dryanski allowed just one run in three innings of work while striking out two Green Wave batters.

The Devils hope to turn things around on Saturday as junior left-hander Erik Averill (2-1, 1.64 ERA) takes the mound for the Devils. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time at Zephyr Stadium.
