Devils Display Sizzling Bats in Victory

The Arizona State Sun Devils won their second straight game Saturday afternoon with a 12-4 victory over the No. 8 Baylor Bears. The Devils (8-9) bats were on fire tonight in the 12 run 16 hit performance.

Sophomore right fielder Travis Buck continued to rip the ball today going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. Fellow sophomore Colin Curtis was also hot at the plate today, going 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Freshman and local valley product Willy Fox went 2-for-4 with one run scored and four RBI including a two-run homerun in the fourth that gave the Devils a 5-1 lead. The Devils never looked back scoring seven more runs in the next four innings. Other Devils to record multi-hit games included senior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch and freshman shortstop Andrew Romine. Gosewisch finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run scored, and two walks. Romine was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher Pat Bresnehan lasted four innings in the start, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits. Brett Bordes took over for Bresnehan and picked up the win for the Devils. Bordes improved his record to 1-2 on the season by pitching two innings and allowing just one run.

The Devils look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. start at Packard Stadium. The Devils will send junior Erik Averill (2-2, 3.00 ERA) to the mound to face Baylor preseason All-American Mark McCormick (0-1, 7.27 ERA).
