Tigers Edge Devils 6-5

An early 3-1 lead in the second inning, coupled with pitching a shut out the last four frames, wasn't enough to overcome LSU in Baton Rouge.

Sun Devil pitcher Zechry Zinicola, who was credited with the loss, was roughed up in the first 3 1/3 innings where he gave up six runs and seven hits. However, the ASU bullpen of Brett Bordes, Quentin Andes, and Kevin Dryanski didn't give up a run the rest of the way.

After falling 1-0 in the first inning, the maroon and gold stormed back to score a trio of runs. A hit by center fielder Colin Curtis, coupled with hit-by-pitches to catcher Tuffy Gosewisch and DH Willy Fox loaded the bases, and allowed a groundout by Rocky Laguna to even the score at 1-1. Singles by shortstop Andrew Romine and second baseman Joe Persichina awarded the visitors with an early 3-1 edge.

In the third, LSU reclaimed the lead at 4-3, and a two-run blast by LSU's left fielder Quinn Stewart in the fourth proved to be the last runs that would be scored by the Tigers. The Devils shrunk the lead in the eighth where Curtis' sacrifice fly plated first baseman Jeff Larish, and was followed by a Laguna single which scored Gosewisch.

Next for Pat Murphy's squad is a date with Western Illinois (4-10) at 12 P.M. on Staurday in Baton Rouge.
