Devils Clobber Cougars

Deep down the Sun Devil Basketball team knew that their game against Washington State could the perfect "pick me up", after a disappointing road trip to the bay area. After routing the visitors from Pullman 96-45, suffice to say that the game was an uplifting one for Rob Evans' team.

The game was never in doubt for ASU, as their lead was in double digits starting early in the first half. The 51-21 halftime score proved that this game would be a yawner. Nevertheless, few expected Washington State to totally collapse in the second half. The Cougars scored only one field goal in the last 10 minutes of the game. When the game mercifully ended, it went down as the biggest margin of victory win in both Rob Evans' career, as well as ASU's Pac-10 tenure.

When seldom used reserve player Brandon Coleman scores, you know that every player in uniform scored. Scoring in double digits for ASU were Chad Prewitt with 16, Donnel Knight with 14, and Braxton and Millage with 13 each. Knight was also was also ASU's leading rebounder with 10, and he may have rekindled the hope for fulfilling the abundance of potential that he possesses.

In such a lopsided game, the game stats can't lie. The 58.7% field goal shooting and the 76% free throw shooting are a true indicator as to the efficiency of ASU on offense. Limiting Washington State to a dismal 26.5% and out rebounding the visitors 48-22, just go to further emphasis the dominance of the Sun Devils on Thursday night.

Up next is another home game, this time against Washington. It is unlikely that ASU will dismantle the Huskies as they did the Cougars. This game is a winnable one and a victory can further build the confidence the Sun Devils are enjoying now. While it's nice to have a "feel good" game like they had against Washington State, it is what you accomplish against more formidable opponents that truly defines you as a team. In that sense, the game against Washington can prove to the ASU team and its fans that this Basketball squad may be saving its best to the later party of the season.
