Wolverines Stun Sun Devils

The Arizona State Sun Devils hosted their last non-conference game of the season tonight against Utah Valley State College Wolverines at Packard Stadium. Unfortunately for the Devils the Wolverines came to play tonight, putting up nine runs on 12 hits in their 9-6 victory. The Devils dropped to 29-18 on the year while the Wolverines improved to 16-33. The loss also ended the Devils 12 game home wining streak as Pat Murphy's squad has now lost three out of their last four games.

The Devils struggled to hit the ball early in the game and fell behind 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning as the Wolverines pounded out four runs on four hits off Sun Devil starter Brett Bordes. Bordes received the loss for the Devils and saw his record fall below .500 on the year at 3-4. Bordes was charged with giving up four runs on five hits in 4.2 innings of work. The Devils bullpen didn't fair much better as they combined to give up five runs on seven hits.

Junior right fielder Travis Buck was one of the only bright spots on the team tonight as he finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs, one RBI, and his fourth homerun of the year. Buck also extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Other notables included sophomore Colin Curtis who was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI and freshman Andrew Romine who also recorded two hits, a run, and an RBI in his 2-for-3 performance.

The Sun Devils will return to action on May 14th as they host the conference leading Arizona Wildcats in a three game series at Packard Stadium.
