Mike Esposito (3-2) got the start on Friday and went a solid 6 innings, giving up an unearned run on just 5 hits. Jered Liebeck got his first save of the year as he went 3 innings giving up 1 run. The Devils pounded out 16 hits in the game, which lead to a season high 15 runs. 2B Steve Garrabrants and RF Andre Ethier lead the Devils with 3 hits apiece. CF Jon Sheaffer also had a big game with a team high 4 RBI's on the day. ASU was down 1-0 in the 2nd inning, until they scored 3 runs in their half of the inning. They would never look back as they ended up winning the game 15-2. ASU was helped by the cause the LMU committed 4 errors in the game.
In his first start as a Sun Devil, Junior Robbie McClellan (3-2), who usually comes out of the bullpen, pitched a complete game, giving up 2 runs (1 unearned) on 3 hits. The Devils won the game 7-2. The Devils started the game off strong scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning. 3B Dustin Pedroia lead the surge after he singled to right field, LMU committed a throwing error, which would eventually score DH Nick Walsh, 1B Jeremy West, and RF Andre Ethier. In the bottom of the 2nd, Jon Sheaffer scored off of a Steve Garrabrants single up the middle. Rod Allen's bat came alive in the Devil half of the 7th inning, when he hit his 3rd homerun of the year over the left field fence.
The Devils completed the sweep of the LMU Lions after a 10-5 victory on Sunday. Bryce Kartler got the start, pitching 6 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs off of 4 hits. A late rally for LMU fell short after they scored 3 runs in the 7th inning. In the bottom of the 1st, Jeremy West singled to right field scoring Steve Garrabrants. ASU would score 5 runs in the 3rd inning extend their lead. After Nick Walsh and Rod Allen were both hit by pitches consecutively, Jeremy West hit his 4th homerun of the year to left field. C Dennis Wyrick singled to left field, scoring Dustin Pedroia. After a pitching change by LMU, Steve Garrabrants would walk, scoring Jon Sheaffer. In the bottom of the 8th inning, after being up 7-4, ASU put the game away with 3 runs in the inning. C Tuffy Gosewisch came in for Dennis Wyrick and would score off a Steve Garrabrants single. Sergio Garcia scored off of a Rod Allen groundout to second base. Andre Ethier would also double down the right field line and score Steve Garrabrants.
After a Tuesday game with New Mexico State, the Devils host the Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament. Other teams that will be playing are UNLV, St. John's, and Oklahoma State.
