Szczesny Journey to ASU Comes to an End

Linebacker Paul Szczesny has yearned to don the maroon and gold for a couple of years now. Unfortunate events have delayed that dream time after time. A few hours ago, Arizona State University has made its decision, and Szczesny told DevilsDigest if his long trek ended successfully or not.

"I just got word an hour ago that I got accepted to ASU," said an excited Paul Szczesny around 3:00 p.m. PT. "It feels great to finally have this burden lifted from me. I waited so long and now it has finally happened."

In an earlier interview to DevilsDigest, the 6-0 255 Szczesny said that during his stint at Pima (Ariz.) Community College, he had a chance to familiarize himself with the Sun Devils and Tempe, and fell in love with both. However, due to family reasons he chose to attend Indiana to stay close to his mother in Chicago.

A coaching change in the Hoosiers' ranks following the 2004 season caused the linebacker to start looking for another school to attend and in his words "When I thought about leaving Indiana I thought about ASU right away." While he made his decision in February, paperwork snafus have forced him to wait for months upon months, until he got the good news today.

Szczesny originally committed to Nebraska out of Niles Notre Dame high school. During his career at Pima he was a All-American, and was regarded by many recruiting services as one of the top junior college linebackers in the nation. Last year in Indiana he finished third on the team in total tackles with 71. He also had five pass breakups and three tackles for loss.

The only two issues left on the table are whether he will be awarded a scholarship in the fall or spring, and whether he will arrive in Tempe before the mandatory date in the first week of August. "The coaches said that they'll look at the scholarship numbers and let me know soon," he said. "I'm gonna try to get there in July, but I need to talk to my family about it. Right now, I'm gonna out and celebrate!"

And the celebration is certainly one that was worth waiting for…
