Southern California RB surveys the Nation

The Poway (Calif.) running back has lived most of his life outside of the Golden State. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Brandon Sullivan is favoring the idea of playing college football away from home. The Arizona State Sun Devils are one of those programs that has peaked his interest.

"Arizona State is recruiting me pretty seriously, " said the 5-10 195 Brandon Sullivan. "I'm being recruited by (quarterbacks) Coach Helfrich. They're a very good program, and they finished 15th out of 117 programs last season. They produce a lot of good players that end up in the NFL. Even though people say it's hot there, it's not as bad as people think (smile)."

The Sun Devils are recruiting him as an athlete. Fittingly, his junior stats highlight his versatility. Sullivan amassed 143 carries for 1,172 yards (8.2 yard average per carry) and 12 touchdowns as a running back and caught 18 passes for 329 yards (18.3 yards per reception) and one touchdown coming out of the backfield. Furthermore, he returned 12 kickoffs and had a 40.8 yard average and two touchdowns. On defense, he had 27 (solo) tackles, six assisted, with one sack and one interception.

"Arizona State is recruiting me as an athlete," he commented. "I really don't care what position they want me, as long as I play. I catch the ball well coming out from the backfield. I started the season not being a good blocker, but I did improve. I have good speed and good vision of the field."

Sullivan who is already qualified, mentioned James Madison and Duke as his only offers. Curiously, none of the two comprise his top four schools. "Maryland, Boston College, Colorado State and ASU (in that order) are at the top of my list," he remarked. "None of them offered me yet, but if ASU or anybody else offered me they would be higher on the list."

"I lived all around the country," Sullivan continued. "So, I don't care where I go to school. I grew up in New Jersey, and I lived in New York, Boston, Virginia, and then in California."

There will be probably be quite some traveling involved when it's time for Sullivan to take his official visits, which possibly explains his mindset as far as a timing for his decision. "I'm going to wait until after the season," he stated. "I don't want to distract myself before or during the season."
