The Arizona State bats were hot for the first time in a few games, pounding out 19 hits and scoring 14 runs. Steve Garrabrants and Nick Cadena lead the way for Devils, each having 3 hits. ASU got the early lead in the 1st inning when Steve Garrabrants scored off of a Jeremy West walk when the bases were loaded. A few hitters later, Jeff Larish flied out to left field, scoring Sergio Garcia. Dustin Pedroia would also score in the inning off of a Rod Allen single to left field.
Garrabrants would score his 2nd run of the game in the 2nd inning when Garcia singled to center field. Pedroia would do the same a few hitters later when Jeff Larish doubled to right center. In the 3rd inning, Nick Cadena hit his 2nd home run of the year to give ASU a 6-0 lead. New Mexico State would score 1 run in the top of the 4th, but ASU came back with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th. With the Devils up 8-1, they would add 5 more runs in the 6th inning to take a 13-1 lead. The 6th inning was sparked by Cadena's 2nd home run of the game, which drove in 3 runs. Each team would add 1 more run, and the final was 14-2. ASU improves to 27-16 on the year with the win.
After taking this next week off for finals, ASU resumes play the following weekend as they travel to Northern California to play the always-dominant Stanford Cardinal.
