JC Safety Favors Sun Devils

College of the Canyons safety Troy Nolan is quite busy these days. His school is sporting a perfect 12-0 record. This weekend they play in the Southern California JC championships versus Grossmont, and a victory will put them in the state finals the following week. Thus, finding time for official visits has been hard to come by. However, there's one school Nolan knows for certainty that he will trip to, and that ultimately may be his school of choice.

"ASU offered me a scholarship after my fifth game," said the 6-2 180 Troy Nolan. "I really like the program, and I know people that attend the school and also players on the team like Chad Green and Littrele Jones. The ASU coaches (Head Coach Dirk Koetter and Safeties Coach Dan Fidler) visited me last night (Tuesday), and told me all about the program."

The safety has 44 tackles and three interceptions thus far this season, and runs a 4.5. "My strong points are backpedaling and tackling," he remarked. "I need to improve on getting out of my breaks faster."

Nolan is also being recruited heavily by Arizona, Oregon State and Texas A&M. However, this mid-year transfer plans to sign his letter of intent on 12/21, and intends on taking one visit and one visit only before that date – to Arizona State on 12/17. "I'm probably looking to sign with ASU, " he remarked. "I like the way they play their safeties. I'm looking for a school that has a high graduation rate, great atmosphere and close to home." It should be noted that teammate Justin Tryon, a three-star cornerback, is scheduled to visit Tempe that weekend as well.

The Cougars standout, who also played on last year's squad that was named 2004 JC Grid-Wire National Champions, was a qualifier out of high school and is on track to graduate this month. He will have three years to play two.
