Tight End Favors Sun Devils

Redlands may be off the beaten recruiting path of the fertile Southern California area, but tight end Lance Evbuomwan is no stranger to ASU and other schools. The maroon and gold have made a strong impression so far on the Redlands East Valley High School standout, and will have a chance to enhance that impression as he visits Tempe this weekend.

"Arizona State has been recruiting me for a few months now and they're my top school," said the 6-5 240 Lance Evbuomwan. "Even though we're not close to L.A. we still have some schools that come and recruit here. Our program wasn't doing that great before, but now that we have turned it around (East Valley finished 10-1-1) more colleges are noticing us."

Evbuomwan has already visited UTEP, and later this month plans to visit Kansas. "I'm also gonna visit Colorado State sometime," he remarked. "I want to play in a good conference, and playing in conference like a Pac-10 would be great. It would also be close to home."

Aside from that desire, several other factors have made the Sun Devils the tight end's leader. "They're a good program that passes the ball a lot," he commented. "They had some good tight ends come out of that school. It really helps that Coach Osborne is recruiting me, and he would be my position coach if I went to ASU, because we already know each other."

In 12 games, Evbuomwan has caught 24 passes for 739 yards and 13 touchdowns "I'm a tall and athletic player, so if you put a linebacker on me I'll beat him down the field," he said. "I run a 4.78, and I know I need to get faster to play in college. I need to get stronger too."
