Devils Embarrassed by Utah Valley State

There really isn't much positive to say about the Sun Devil men's basketball team's loss to the Utah Valley State, 75-71. The Wolverines have only recently upgraded from junior college status to a four year university. Furthermore, UVSU has only played a full Division 1 schedule for two seasons. However, it was the Sun Devils that resembled a JC team on Saturday.

The only real bright spot for ASU was the play of true freshman Jeff Pendergraph. He ended with 20 points on 7 for 13 shooting, matching UVSU's Ben Devoe's 21 point performance.

The Sun Devils went on a 9-0 run midway through the second half to open up an eight point margin, but a lack of defense allowed the Wolverines to climb back into the game, gain confidence, and eventually re-take the lead with just over a minute left. ASU tried to pull out the victory in the end, but Sylvester Allison's three pointer with only 17 seconds left sealed the victory for the visiting team.

Sparky's Sundries…attendance was lackluster, with only 1200 or so people actually in attendance…the Devils went with a three guard lineup for much of the contest…Craig Austin started the game but Pendergraph received the majority of the minutes.
