ASU Trounces Portland

ASU faced the University of Portland tonight and showed the Pilots who the superior team was. ASU improves to 29-18 with the 7 inning 14-2 win.

Carlos Arguello started the game and lasted 4 innings, while giving up just 3 hits and 0 runs. He improved to 2-1 on the season with the win. Aaron Klusman pitched the last 3 innings, giving up 2 runs off of 7 hits.

ASU was lead with multi hit games by Steve Garrabrants, Jeremy West, Nick Cadena, and Cesar Castillo. ASU as a team pounded out 13 hits, including the 10 run 4th inning which saw 15 Devils come to the plate.

Jeremy West lead off the 2nd inning with a double, and would later score when Cesar Castillo hit a 2 run double, scoring West and Ryan McKenna, who earlier walked. In the 3rd inning, ASU would add 2 more runs when West would double again, scoring Jeff Larish, and West would score off of a Nick Cadena single.

The 4th inning was the big inning for the Devils, scoring a season high 10 runs in the inning. The key plays of the inning were when Rod Allen doubled down the left field line, scoring Cadena and West. Then, back to back triples by Steve Garrabrants and Joel Bocchi resulted in 3 runs scoring. The Devils would take a 14-0 lead after the 4th inning, but Portland would score with a run in the 6th inning and a run in the 7th inning and ASU won 14-2.

ASU and Portland face off again Wednesday night at 6 P.M. at HoHoKam Stadium.
