Sun Devils Sweep Two Game Series

ASU finished off its mid week series against the University of Portland, pulling off the sweep in the 16-7 win. The Devils improved to 30-18 with the win.

ASU used a combination of 5 pitches on the night. Jered Liebeck (1-1) recorded the win for the Devils as he pitched 2 innings not giving up a run. Bryce Kartler and Ryan Schroyer pitched a combined 2 2/3 innings pitched, also not giving up a run.

Portland took a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, but the Devils came back to tie the game up in their half of the inning when Bryce Kartler, who at the time was the DH before he came into pitch, doubled to right center scoring Jeremy West.

The Pilots would score a run in the top of the 2nd, but ASU came back with 5 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 7-3 lead. In the inning, West singled to left field, scoring Steve Garrabrants and Dustin Pedroia.

ASU would add 4 more runs, 2 both in the 3rd and 5th inning, before the 6th inning, when Jeremy West hit a grand slam, increasing the Devils lead to 15-5. ASU would add 1 more run and Portland added 2 more runs, as the final score was 16-7.

Jeremy West lead the way for the Devils with 8 RBI's, which was the 2nd highest in a single game in Sun Devil history. He went 4 for 6 on the night.

ASU faces USC this weekend in a crucial Pac 10 battle at HoHoKam Stadium.
