Devils Pursuing Another Macarthur Linebacker

ASU already received a verbal commitment from Texas linebacker Jeff Bereuter, and this past weekend received a visit from his Cardinals' teammate Justin Gent. The two were at one time commits to Oklahoma State, and with Bereuter changing his pledge to the maroon and gold would Gent follow suit?

"It was a good visit," said four-star linebacker Justin Gent. "The coaches and the players were real cool and answered all the questions that I had. Coach Miller is a great coach and he's a big reason why I'm looking at ASU." The 6-2 210 Gent planned to visit Arizona State with Jeff Bereuter on the same weekend, but it didn't pan out. "I had this visit planned a while back, he stated. "I didn't know much about the linebacker situation until Coach Miller and Coach Monachino talked to me about how they're losing two linebackers. So I decided I should go up there. It really wasn't about Jeff or anything like that."

Gent stated that the Sun Devil coaches have already been to his house a couple of times, and that coaches Koetter and Miller are likely to visit next month as well. He didn't indicate that he was close to a de-commitment, but admitted that he wished to explore all possibilities. "I'm just making sure that I'm making the right decision," Gent declared. "I don't want to regret my decision later. I know one player from a while back that said that he wished he looked at other schools before signing, so I didn't want to make that mistake."

Currently, Gent cannot see any other schools other than the Sun Devils and Cowboys factoring into consideration, nor does he favor the Sun Devils because of his teammate's commitment. "That is gonna be my only visit besides Oklahoma State," he remarked. "I have some thinking and comparing to do right now, and decide which school suits me the best. Jeff won't be the determining factor. It's nice to know that if I go to ASU I'll know somebody there, but there's other factors I'm gonna consider. "I'm gonna talk to my parents and whenever the decision comes up it comes up."

Gent was his school's district defensive player of the year. He has been reported to be a solid combination of size and strength, with solid tackling form. He has good downhill running skills, and is deceptively fast.
