OT Road Victory Nets First Pac-10 Win for Dev

After last week's back-to-back heartbreaking one-point losses, it was only fitting that ASU would earn their first conference win in dramatic fashion. Once again, the maroon and gold were leading in the closing seconds of the game, but this time they were able to apply a defensive stop and secure the win, 65-63 in overtime over Oregon State.

The start of the game surely didn't point to an Arizona State (7-8, 1-5 Pac-10) victory, as Oregon State (9-7, 2-3) had an 8-2 lead at the 13:26 mark of the first half. The home team wasn't able to significantly increase their lead, but the Beavers were still ahead 20-13 with 6:52 remaining in the opening stanza. Bryson Krueger scored the last four points of his team's 14-5 run, to give the Sun Devils a 27-25 edge at halftime.

The second half was a classic see-saw battle, with no team able to increase their lead beyond three points. ASU had a 55-52 lead with 3:31 remaining in regulation. However, the Devils scored only two points the rest of the way, and after 40 minutes the game was knotted at 57-57. The Beavers scored only one field gold in the extra session but it was huge one, as Sasa Cuic drained a three-point basket to tie the score at 63 apiece with 1:28 left in overtime. It was then that Antwi Atuahene took upon itself to get his team off the snide. His driving shot with 8.6 seconds left were the last points scored in the contest. On the other end of the floor, his block on Jason Fontenet was enough to disrupt Oregon State's last offensive possession and give his team a precious inaugural Pac-10 win in 2006.

Krueger paced all players on the floor with 18 points, and had a team-high seven rebounds. Serge Angounou was the only other Sun Devil in double figures with 10. Atuahene led his team with eight assists. ASU shot only 40.3%, but limited OSU to 39.3%, and held a 42-37 edge on the glass, including 16-10 on the offensive side. Cuic was the high scorer on the Beavers squad with 17.

Up next for ASU is a home match-up with Cal on Thursday at 6:30 PM.
