Baseball Weekend Wrapup

The ASU baseball team ended the regular season with a sweep of the Oregon State Beavers. As part of the NCAA tournament the Sun Devils will be one of 16 teams to host regional sites. Houston, New Mexico, and San Diego are the three other teams in the regional which runs May 31-June 2.

Jered Liebeck started the game for the Devils only lasting 2 innings. Bryce Kartler earned the win for the Devils. ASU would score 4 runs in the 1st inning to take the quick lead. Dustin Pedroia started things off with a single, scoring Steve Garrabrants.

After OSU scoring 7 runs to take the lead, Rod Allen scored in the 3rd inning to cut their lead. In the bottom of the 4th, ASU scored 2 more runs when Jeremy West and Dustin Pedroia scored. The Devils would add 6 more runs, 4 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 8th for the 13-7 win.

This was Andre Ethier's 1st game in over a month. He was injured in the series at Notre Dame.

The Devils had a huge comeback today as they scored 3 runs in the 9th inning in the 9-8 win. Bryce Kartler earned his 2nd win in as many nights in the relief role. After OSU took a 1-0, ASU came back to take a 5-1 lead in the 2nd inning. Cesar Castillo was instrumental in the inning when he drove in 2 runs off of his single.

ASU would add a run in the 4th inning, and OSU would add 4 runs before the Devils made their comeback in the 9th inning. The winning run in the game came off of Jeff Larish's bat, which in turn scored Sergio Garcia.

The Devils finished off the sweep of the Beavers with the 5-2 win. Mike Esposito got the start and had a decent outing with his 5 innings pitched, not giving up a run. Jeremy West had 4 RBI's in the game, including a home run in the 8th inning. Nick Walsh scored 3 of the 5 runs in the game, with those runs coming in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th inning. After ASU took a 4-0 lead, OSU scored 2 runs in the 6th inning. They could not put together a come back though, and the Devils held the lead for the sweep.

The Sun Devils will find out Monday at 9:30 AM where they'll be seeded in the NCAA tournament. An outside chance at hosting a regional still exists. Pat Murphy's boys finished the season very strong. If this positive momentum continues, ASU could make some noise in June.
