The ASU baseball team fell to the Houston Cougars 8-4 today in the 2nd round of the regionals. Mike Esposito got the start and pitched 8 innings, giving up 8 runs off of 13 hits. The ASU baseball team defeated San Diego 11-1 and will play Houston to see who moves on to the Super Regionals.
Houston scored 3 runs before the Devils would tally a run in the 6th inning
when Andre Ethier singled to center field scoring Jeff Larish. The Cougars
would add 5 more runs in the 6th and 7th innings. In the 8th inning, Ethier
would get his 2nd RBI of the game, scoring Steve Garrabrants. The Devil's try
for a comeback was stopped when they were only able to accumulate 2 runs.
Bryce Kartler and Cesar Castillo scored in the inning.
Carlos Arguello got the start for the Devils and completed the game,
giving up 1 run off of 7 hits.
In the 2nd inning, the Devils tooks a 2-0 lead off of Andre Ethier and Rod
Allen runs. In the top of the 3rd, Jeff Larish homered to left field,
increasing the Devils lead to 3-0. In the Devil half of the 5th inning, Andre
Ethier, Rod Allen, Sergio Garcia, Steve Garrabrants, and Cesar Castillo
all scored, to move the score to 8-0. In the bottom of the 5th, San Diego
drove in a run to cut the lead to 8-1, but it would not be enough, as in the
9th inning, the Devils scored 2 runs off of a Ethier single scoring 2 and a
Jeremy West run to move the lead to 11-1 and that was the final score.
