Devils Sweep Huskies

While most people were tuning in to the pre-game festivities of Super Bowl XL this afternoon, the Arizona State Sun Devils were busy completing their three game sweep of the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Devils (5-1) defeated the Huskies (0-3) 8-3 today, thanks in large part to the solid pitching performance of right-handed junior Pat Bresnehan.

Bresnehan (2-0) has looked great in his first two starts of the 2006 season, earning victories in both. Bresnehan gave up just one run on two hits in six innings of work and also struck out six Husky batters. The bullpen was still a little shaky in relief today, but managed to close out the game without too much trouble.

At the plate, right fielder Colin Curtis continued to swing a hot bat. Curtis finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI's including a double and a two-run homerun in the second inning, which gave the Devils a commanding 4-0 lead. First baseman Willy Fox, left fielder Ryan Sontag, and centerfielder J.J. Sferra all added two RBI's on the day for the Devils. Curtis finished the series 6-for-13 with six runs and two RBI's including three doubles and today's homerun.

The Devils will look to continue their five game winning streak next weekend, as they travel to Surprise Stadium to take part in the Fourth Annual Coca-Cola Classic. The Devils will open up with the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday They will then play the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday, and close out the tournament by facing the Nevada Wolf Pack on Sunday. Friday's game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm first pitch.
