Cardinal Clobber Devils

Maples Pavilion has rarely been kind to the visiting Sun Devils. Last year, the maroon and gold earned a rare win in Palo Alto, but unfortunately on Thursday's night the game was eerily familiar to previous visits as Stanford handled ASU quite easily 82-69.

Matters became rough for Arizona State (9-14, 3-11) in the first half where a trio of players were already saddled with three fouls each, and grabbed only eight rebounds in the first twenty minutes. Stanford (13-9, 9-4) went to the locker room with a 41-25 lead, but an 18-8 run by the visitors had the maroon and gold down only 49-43. An ASU foul coupled with a technical foul on the its bench, allowed the home team to distance itself once again and keep the game out of reach.

Jeff Pendergraph was one of four Sun Devils in double figures, and paced his team with 18 points and nine rebounds. Kevin Kruger chipped in with 15, and Bryson Krueger once again came off the bench in a big way with 14 points. Antwi Atuahene had 10 points for ASU. It was another cold shooting night for the Devils at 38.9%, while allowing the home team to convert at a 53.5% clip. Stanford had a slight edge on the glass 23-20, and blocked seven shots to ASU's one. Dan Grunfeld had a career-high 31 points for the Cardinal.

Up next for ASU is a road game at Cal, which will tip-off at 6PM on Saturday.
