Devils Torch Islanders

Another stellar performance by an inexperienced Sun Devil pitcher. Another impressive day at the plate by Ike Davis. All in all, another day in the office for Arizona State. The maroon and gold opened up the Whataburger College Classic in explosive fashion, as they blasted the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 10-2.

The 15-5 Arizona State Sun Devils felt right at home at Whataburger Field, which is home to the Islanders, as they scored two runs in the first. One of the runs was knocked in, by who else, Ike Davis who had four total RBI's on Friday and now has 33 for the year. Starting pitcher Matt Trink, didn't exactly get knocked around, but he did surrender two runs in two innings of work. Fortunately for ASU, those would be also the last two runs they would give up all night. Josh Satow, who was credited with his first win of the year, pitched 4.2 solid innings where he have up only two hits.

At the plate, the bats continued to sizzle for the Devils. Willy Fox, who was 3-3 tonight, drew a bases loaded walk to give his team the lead for good 3-2. Ike Davis was clutch again, clearing the bases with a deep hit double to give his squad a commanding 6-2 edge. It was deja vu all over again in the sixth with another bases loaded scenario, and this time Eric Sogard brings two runs home. Austin Stockfisch's RBI made it 9-2 in the same inning, and the visitors tacked on their last run in the ninth.

A much tougher match up await ASU as they face Rice on Saturday at 4:30.
