Arizona State (17-5) wasted no time in putting runs on the board, as Ryan Sontag started the contest with a home run to put the Devils ahead 1-0. In the fourth, Ike Davis had a solo blast of his own to increase his team's lead. The sixth inning saw both teams scoring their last runs of the day. An Eric Sogard double plated Brett Wallace, and the Horned Frogs scored in the bottom of the inning.
Jeff Urlaub was solid on the mound once again for ASU allowing five hits in five innings. Brady Martinez and Brett Bordes pitched two shut out innings each to preserve the victory. Urlaub improved to a perfect 5-0, while Bordes recorded his inaugural save in 2006. Willy Fox, who had the tenth inning hit to lift ASU over Rice on Saturday, was tournament MVP. Joining him on the All-Tournament team were Austin Stockfisch, Eric Sogard, Ryan Sontag, Ike Davis, and Zechry Zinicola.
The Sun Devils will wrap up their stay in the lone star state with a match against the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday night. First pitch is at 5:15 PM Arizona time.
What a Sweep!
