Longhorns Stomp Devils

The 11th ranked Texas Longhorns had Arizona State's number tonight, as they defeated the 16th ranked Devils 11-6. The loss snapped the Devils seven game winning streak, although they still finished the Texas road trip 3-1 after sweeping through the competition in the Corpus Christi Classic over the weekend.

The Longhorns pounded the Devils pitching for 11 runs on ten hits, and went into the ninth inning with a convincing 11-1 lead. The Devils made things somewhat interesting by putting up five runs in the ninth, but it was too little to late for Pat Murphy's squad.

The Devils managed just eight hits offensively, led by outfielder Colin Curtis and first baseman Brett Wallace, who each recorded two hits on the night. Curtis also scored two runs, while Wallace drove in two for the Devils. Outfielder, Rocky Laguna, also had two RBI's on the night after coming into the game late as replacement.

Brett Bruneel got the start for the Devils. Unfortunately, he also received the loss on the night. Bruneel (0-1) didn't get a lot of help defensively, as the Devils committed a couple of costly errors that led to three unearned Longhorn runs.

The Devils dropped to 17-6 on the year, but should still climb up in the rankings after their strong showing in the weekend tournament.

The Devils return home next weekend to face the Oklahoma Sooners in a three game set which begins Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
