Cats Even Series Against Devils

The Arizona Wildcats were able to even up the series last night, as they defeated the #13 Arizona State Sun Devils18-12. The Devils just couldn't seem to find an out in key situations and defensively, the Devils committed five errors for the second night in a row. The five errors led to five unearned runs.

Offensively the Devils continued to slug the ball, but they were just out slugged on the night. The Devils looked to be in cruise control as they were the night before after jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. The early lead came courtesy of Eric Sogard's three-run bomb in the second inning, which gave the Devils the 6-0 advantage. Sogard finished with five RBI's on the night. The lead wouldn't last long, as the pitching and defensive couldn't hold up their end of the bargain.

The Cats scored seven runs over the next two innings off, Sun Devil starter Josh Satow and reliever Zechry Zinicola. The Devils would regain the lead at 8-7 after scoring a run in the fourth and one more in the fifth off a solo homerun by Frank Mesa. Zinicola, who has been struggling as of late, couldn't hold the lead as he was tattooed for four runs in three innings of work. Zinicola received the loss to drop to 2-3 on the season. Seven Sun Devil pitchers combined to give up the 18 runs on 17 hits, and each pitcher gave up at least one run.

The Devils will look to take the series today, as the two teams will take the field for the rubber-match at 12 p.m. The Devils need the win in order to stay alive in the race for the Pac 10 title.
