Texas Defensive Tackle Enjoys ASU Visit

The Sun Devils haven't been recruiting Dominique Hamilton for that long. They did however generate enough interest for the Chapin High School standout from El Paso to visit them on Friday. Hamilton told Devils Digest that it was time well spent in the Valley of the Sun.

The 6-6 280 Dominique Hamilton is being recruited by defensive line coach Grady Stretz. "They just started recruiting me last week," he said. "They offered me a scholarship right away. That was really the first time I got to meet a coach from there. I knew I was going to be in the area this week so I decided to check them out."

Once he did arrive here, the defensive tackle was impressed with what he saw. "It went really good," he commented on the visit. "They showed me everywhere. I like to lift weights a lot, and the weight room was tremendous. I liked the Recreation Center too. They showed me lots of love, and told me how much they want me to wear that jersey."

He may have came on his trip with no expectations, but that perception has definitely changed following his visit. "I know a lot more about them now," admitted Hamilton. "I really didn't know if I could myself there before I took this trip, but now that I saw the campus and everything they got, they have a few more points with me."

Hamilton has family from both sides living in the Phoenix area. "I guess you can consider this a second home," he said. "My mom passed away in February, and we come here to visit her grave now and then…we come here to visit all the time."

As a junior, Dominique Hamilton made second team all-district. He racked up 70 tackles, four forced fumbles, six sacks, 14 QB pressures, six tackles for loss and one recovered fumble. "I come quick off the ball," he said of his skills, "but I need to get much faster." Most of his offers naturally come from Big 12 schools closer to home. "Number one I have to say is Missouri," he said as his listed his favorites. "Colorado is number two. Then Texas A&M, and then I have to say Arizona State. I can really see myself leaving Texas. I do like the Big 12 conference, but I can see myself playing in the Pac-10 too. I really don't know where I'm gonna go." Prior to his visit to ASU, he did visit the University of Arizona.

Hamilton did attend the Nike Texas combine, and may attend the UTEP combine near his house. However, he isn't planning at attend any more team camps or other combines. "I think I might make a decision in the summer before the season starts," he said.

The defensive tackle has a 2.9 GPA, and will take both the SAT and ACT in June.
